Pip LOG 7
Look Up Tables (LUTs) transform flat and dull-looking footage into vibrant, cinematic moments, taking your colour management to the next level whilst saving you time and effort. It’s a chance to quickly emulate the look and feel of your favourite creators, something that will have taken them years of trial and error to perfect. Accelerate your workflow and create a consistent, cinematic look across all your videos with easy-to-use LUTs, developed with filmmakers and creators in mind.
The biggest challenge that filmmakers have is consistently creating the same look in their work, this is the essence of having a style that your audience recognises - the same way that sometimes you know instantly who’s directed a movie, simply by seeing the poster. Wes Anderson, Kubrik, Tarantino, Nolan - they have all developed a consistent visual language through many years of toil, trial and error. LUTs can do many things… Control colour and contrast, Create an emotive feeling, Introduce a stylised look Or simply provide a solid foundation to starting your own colour grade to your scenes. Introducing LUTs into your workflow will not only give you a consistent look, it will help you develop your own style that others will come to recognise.

All LUTs need to be adjusted when applied for the first time, that’s just part of the process. Start by lowering the opacity, try adjusting your contrast, tweak your highlights to get the final result you need. (Don’t worry about this bit) examples of this process are included in the free course). These LUTs are versatile and designed to work with all kinds of footage but to get the best results, shoot in a flat picture profile so you have more dynamic range in your files. This is a type of LOG setting on most cameras: C-LOG (Canon LOG), SLOG (Sony LOG) or C-LOG) F-LOG (Fuji LOG) and you get the idea. If you are working with footage that has already been colour-corrected in some way (like most stock footage for example), the Rec709 LUTs will work best. Just so this is clear... If you are working with LOG footage - the LOG LUTs will work best.
If your footage has already been edited or colour-corrected - the Rec709 LUTs will work best.
Using LUTs on your footage avoids the rookie error of trying to manually adjust the colours yourself whilst trying to do a million other things at once. This was me for years, I thought I could do a better job and (quite honestly) I loved noodling around and burying myself in tutorials and courses about colour. The problem is that we all have limited time and energy - grading your footage to a professional level takes years of practice. LUTs allow us to avoid reinventing the wheel on every project. Saving time and energy for more rewarding, fulfilling and high-leverage tasks in our businesses.
